Eldad and Medad.
- Their story calls us to prophesy where we are and allow God to use us.
Prophesy: To speak or sing under inspiration of divine spirit
- To let your words be inspired by the very Spirit of God
- Also, to live your life under the inspiration of divine spirit
- To share words of life that are dripping with God’s presence and goodness.
Numbers 11
Vs 16-17
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Gather for me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting, and let them take their stand there with you. 17 And I will come down and talk with you there. And I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not bear it yourself alone.
We haven’t gotten to Eldad and Medad just yet, but know first and foremost that they were chosen—gathered by Moses. Our ability to prophesy or to speak and live under God’s inspiration is because someone greater than us has chosen us!
Vs 26
26 Now two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the Spirit rested on them. They were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp.
- Ever felt like “well, I missed my shot.”
“And so they prophesied in the camp”
- Where they were, did not change Moses’ choosing them or God’s Spirit resting on them!
- You, sharing inspired words of God’s Spirit MUST happen outside of the church and in the camp.
Vs 29
29 But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”
Moses desires what the prophet Joel would prophesy and what comes to fulfillment through Jesus in Acts 2:17.
17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
- Jesus has renovated your life and placed His spirit in you so that you can be His messenger wherever you are (not just in church).
