Part 3- City on a Hill

Review: Pastor Mark spoke about us reigning through Christ Jesus.

Pastor Terry spoke about us being more than conquerors

 Matthew 5:13-16 TPT

 Matthew 5:13 TPT

13 Your lives are like salt among the people. But if you, like salt, become bland, how can your ‘saltiness’ be restored? Flavorless salt is good for nothingand will be thrown out and trampled on by others.

    1. Salt
    2. Preserves
      • Protect from being destroyed
      • Heals wounds
    3. Seasons
      • Everything good salt touches is seasoned.

4. Luke 4:18-19 (NKJV)

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,

Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

  1. This is a scripture from Isaiah that Jesus spoke about himself. The body of Christ should be continuing this.

Matthew 5:13bBut if you, like salt, become bland, how can your ‘saltiness’ be restored?

  1. How do we become bland?
    • By disqualifying ourselves.
    • I think I am too old. You have a calling on your life, that calling doesn’t end until your last breath on this Earth.
    • I am too young. If you know your calling start preparing, eliminate your biggest distractions. Study to show yourself approved.
    • I’m so busy. Distractions and busyness can cause blandness.

2. By accepting the way things are right now.

    • Every town Paul preached in, he was either run out of town, he caused a riot, he was stoned or he converted part of the city.

Matthew 5:14 TPT

14 Your lives light up the world. Let others see your light from a distance, for how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop?

  1. Light up your World!
    • At work
    • Pray for your workplace, your boss and the people working with you. You might be the only one praying for your workplace and your fellow employees.
    • Pray that God would give you opportunities to share the Gospel.
    • Volunteer to do the little jobs no one wants to do.

2. At church

    • Find a place to serve others.

 Matthew 5:15 TPT

15 And who would light a lamp and then hide it in an obscure place? Instead, it’s placed where everyone in the house can benefit from its light.

  1. Use your God given authority to help others.

1.  Luke 9:1-2 (NKJV)

Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

2.   Matthew 10:7-8 (NKJV)

And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

3. Jesus has given you all of this authority. We need to walk in it.

    • Authority message for Charis before the mission trip.

Matthew 5:16 TPT

16 So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that the commendable things you do will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.”

A. I don’t know how to let my light shine

OR

I need help to let my light shine?

1. Jesus sent us a Helper!

 A.  John 16:7 (NKJV)

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

B. It was so important for the Helper to come that Jesus said it is to our benefit that He (Jesus) should go to the Father.

C. And the majority of the Christian church has rejected the Helper, The Holy Spirit.

Bonus Scriptures:

 Matthew 4:16 (NKJV)

16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned.”

 John 1:1-5 (NKJV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

 John 8:12(NKJV)

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

 Matthew 10:27 (NKJV)

27 “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.

Luke 11:33 (NKJV)

33 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those
