WIN AT LIFE

Pastor Mark Carrillo

Winning Attitude – Count your blessings not your troubles.

“”For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:43-45, ESV)

We form habits, then habits form us.

“We seldom think of what we have, but always of what we lack”. Arthur Shopenhauer, German Philosopher

Character forms from the inside out. Habitual doing of right.

We all have “thought habits”

Ingrained patterns and assumptions
Assumption – something accepted as true or certain to happen without proof

The Inner Life

Character is who you are on the inside, your private thoughts, hidden motives, personal agendas, what you do when no one is around.

Repentance = to change the mind (thinking that contradicts God’s thoughts) “You are either the captain or the captive of your thoughts.”

― Denis Waitley, The Psychology of Winning Concentrate on the 95% of your life that is right and ignore the 5% that you don’t like.

“All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.” (Proverbs 15:15, ESV)

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4, ESV)

“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6, ESV)

“”Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.” (Luke 6:22-23, ESV)

95% – 5% Rule of Gratitude

“Happiness is the experience of living every moment with love, grace and gratitude.”
― Denis Waitley

The Seed you Sow Determines the Crop you Grow!

Resolve to think and say only you want to become reality

You believe your inner thoughts more than anyone else.Your thoughts are like seeds.

Proverbs 23:6-7 NASB Do not eat the bread of a selfish man, Or desire his delicacies; (7) For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you.

We first form habits. Then habits form us.
We get to choose the “thought habits” we form.

Relentless, repetitive self talk is what changes our self-image. Replace your thoughts with God’s thoughts about you.Meditating God’s Word is learning to think His thoughts.

Accessing the “Good” on the inside is the key!

Proverbs 4:20-24 KJV My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. (21) Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. (22) For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. (23) Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (24) Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

What the mind dwells upon the body acts on.

Psalms 1:2-3 NASB But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. (3) He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

“A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4, ESV)

Contaminate – to make something impure, unclean, or polluted, to make unfit for use. “Your thoughts about yourself are like the movie previews; they are glimpses of coming attractions.” Denis Waitley, The Psychology of Winning
If you want to win in life – build your character from the inside out.

It is impossible to consistently behave in a manner that is inconsistent with the way we see ourselves.
