Chapter 3: “In His Word I Hope”

Psalm 130:1-8 (ESV)

“Waiting” quavah – to tie together, to be entwined
The Psalms puts us at the intersection of God’s time and our time.

Waiting exposes our unhealthy desire for control and self-satisfaction. Patience is a fruit, not a gift. It is a fruit born from abiding in the vine.

Psalm 27:13-14 (ESV) I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; waitfor the Lord!

What do we do in the meantime? We pray. Prayer strengthens our relationship with God and develops in us the trust and the patience to wait on His timing.

Psalm 40:1-3 (ESV) I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
