His mission, His pace.
Jesus is never in a hurry.
Jesus is relaxed.
4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow astranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”6 Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.
7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. – John 10-4-10 NKJV
God’s mission is to give us life abundant.
3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. – John 17:3 NKJV
14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, – Mark 3:14 NKJV
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The Abundant Life vs The Hurried Life
“If the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy.” – Corrie ten Boom
“Both sin and busyness have the exact same effect—they cut off your connection to God, to other people, and even to your own soul.” – John Mark Comer
Do you want to go fast, or do you want to bear fruit?
David’s Every 6 Steps (2 Samuel 6)
Covered in the dust of your rabbi
When Jesus says, “Put my yoke upon you,” He is literally offering to become your rabbi, your teacher (shepherd).
Halakha – when a disciple obeys the teachings of his rabbi – literally means, “to walk.”
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:28-29 NKJV
1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever. – Psalm 23 NKJV
His mission is pace.
