“What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love, It’s the Only Thing That There’s Just Too little of”
“What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love, No not just for one But For Everyone.”
“The dominate culture that Jesus wants all churches to have is love. God’s love.”
This is a culture not by default that just evolves but a church by design.
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
– Matthew 22:37 (NKJV)
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
– Deuteronomy 6:5 (NKJV)
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
– John 13:34-35 (NKJV)
A new commandment?
What is this new commandment? Not that we just love God and love one another. But love one another—“as I have loved you”—that we love like Jesus loved us.
“God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.”
– Romans 5:5 (AMPC)
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
– Romans 5:8 (NLT)
But we don’t need to write to you about the importance of loving each other for God himself has taught you to love one another.”
– I Thessalonians 4:9 (NLT)
“But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
– I John 4:8 (NLT)
“Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.”
– Deuteronomy 7:9 (NLT)
Love is patient – God is patient with me
and kind. – God is kind to me
Love is not jealous – God is not jealous about me
or boastful – God is not boastful towards me
or proud – God is not proud and arrogant to me
or rude. – God is not rude to me
It does not demand its own way. – God does not demand His own way
It is not irritable, – God is not irritable to me
and it keeps no record of being wronged. – God does not hold grudges about me
It does not rejoice about injustice – God is not happy about wrongs
but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. – God is happy when truth wins
Love never gives up, – God never gives up on me
never loses faith, – God never loses faith in me
is always hopeful, – God is always hopeful about me
and endures through every circumstance. – God always stands with me
love will last forever! – God will always love me
– I Corinthians 13:4 – 8 (NLT)
Patience is the capacity to be wronged and not retaliate (or get even).
The Corinthian church had many members who had been wronged, as in lawsuits (I Cor. 6:8).
The response of love to these wrongs would be a display of kindness and goodness.
Envy and boasting seemed to abound as two poles of the same problem.
Pride physio occurs only seven times in the New Testament, six of which are found in this letter.
Love is NOT rude nor self-seeking nor easily angered and it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in truth.
Love always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres (remains steadfast in the face of unpleasant circumstances).
Love never fails, in the sense it will never come to an end.
He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault.
– Ephesians 5:27 (NLT)
