MEAL PLAN

Pastor Hollis Moore

Part1: BE THE HEALTH NUT

We are committed to building healthy churches that are growing people in Christ

Are you healthy?

Are you growing?

Matthew 4:1-4 (ESV)– Jesus tempted by Satan

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written,

“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every wordthat comes from the mouth of God.’”

Jesus relates The Word of God with what we eat

 Jeremiah 15:16 (TLB)

16 Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul. They bring joy to my sorrowing heart and delight me. How proud I am to bear your name, O Lord.

Taking in the Word is a crucial part of our Spiritual health

 Healthy Eating vs Starvation

 Stages of Starvation

Phase 1– During the first stage of starvation, blood glucose levels are maintained through the production of glucose from proteins, glycogen and fats.

The first phase of starvation begins as little as two hours after eating

Phase 2– In the second phase, which might last for several weeks, fats are the main energy source.

Phase 3– The third phase of starvation starts when a person’s fat reserves are depleted and there is a switch to proteins as the major source of the person’s energy. Muscles, the largest source of protein in the body, are quickly depleted. At the end of this phase, proteins – essential for cellular functions, are broken down and cell function degenerates.

Along with loss of weight, symptoms of starvation include:

  • Apathy
  • Withdrawal
  • Listlessness – Spiritless
  • Increased susceptibility to disease

People can die of starvation in as little as three-weeks, or as long as seventy days.

Few people die directly from starvation because they usually die of an infectious disease first.

Starving ourselves of The Word of God will rob you of life from the inside out

1 Peter 2: 1-3 (TPT)

So abandon[a] every form of evil, deceit, hypocrisy,[b] feelings of jealousy and slander. In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure[c] spiritual milk of God’s Word.[d] For this “milk” will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life[e]— especially now that you have had a taste of the goodness of the Lord Jehovah and have experienced his kindness.[f]

We will never be a healthy Christian who is maturing in Christ if we starve ourselves of The Word.

Healthy Eating Habits

We don’t become healthy by simply eating. We get healthy by watching what we are eating and how much eat.

80% diet – 20% exercise

Quality vs Quantity

Calorie Deficit is when you expend more energy than you consume.

Intaking more calories than you’re burning leads to weight gain

-Reading 10 chapters a day but doing nothing with it

Intaking less calories than you’re burning leads to weight loss

-Not taking in The Word but still leading a Life Group

It’s not about reading more or less of your Bible, but simply about getting full when you read

Hebrews 5:11-14 (TLB)

11 There is much more I would like to say along these lines, but you don’t seem to listen, so it’s hard to make you understand.

12-13 You have been Christians a long time now, and you ought to be teaching others, but instead you have dropped back to the place where you need someone to teach you all over again the very first principles in God’s Word. You are like babies who can drink only milk, not old enough for solid food. And when a person is still living on milk it shows he isn’t very far along in the Christian life, and doesn’t know much about the difference between right and wrong. He is still a baby Christian! 14 You will never be able to eat solid spiritual foodand understand the deeper things of God’s Word until you become better Christians and learn right from wrong by practicing doing right.

It is healthy to start your new life on milk. It’s not healthy to stay there.

How do I start these Healthy Eating Habits?

 Create a Meal Plan!

-Where should I start?

-When is the best time?

-How much should I read?

-Am I getting full?

-Do I need a nutritionist? (Accountability)

The biggest component in eating right and living a healthy life-style  is discipline.

Hebrews 12:11 (ESV)

11 For the moment all discipline seems painfulrather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousnessto those who have been trained by it.

Closing Prayer

Psalm 119:33-40 (TPT)

Give me revelation about the meaning of your ways
so I can enjoy the reward of following them fully.
34 Give me an understanding heart so that I can
passionately know and obey your truth.
35 Guide me into the paths that please you,
for I take delight in all that you say.
36 Cause my heart to bow before your words of wisdom
and not to the wealth of this world.
37 Help me turn my eyes away from illusions
so that I pursue only that which is true;
drench my soul with life as I walk in your paths.[
d]
38 Reassure me of your promises, for I am your beloved,
your servant who bows before you.
39 Defend me from the criticism I face
for keeping your beautiful words.
40 See how I long with cravings for more of your ways?
Let your righteousness revive my spirit!
