Drawing Near: Part 3 | Pastor Jacob Sheriff

About this Message:

In this message Pastor Jacob shares, the primary purpose of prayer is not to convince God to do what we think He should do. It is relationship—communion with God. In that communion we are transformed, and out of transformation grows genuine partnership with Him in everyday life and in what He is doing in the world. Jesus modeled this dependence: He often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer, and He declared that the Son can do nothing of His own accord. The Lord’s Prayer functions as training wheels that first reorient us to God’s reality (Father, holy name, kingdom, will) and then bring the ordinary realities of bread, relationships, temptation, and evil under His reign. Apart from this communion we can do nothing; with it we become partners who establish His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
