Faith is not mental agreement or spiritual currency we use to get God to do what we want. It is present trust in a God who holds the future, and that trust must shape how we handle money. We are stewards, not owners—everything we have has been entrusted to us and we will give an account for it. Two ditches threaten us: fearful scarcity that clutches and greedy accumulation that constantly grasps for more. Generosity is the road between those ditches. It keeps our hands open, puts money in its proper place, and becomes a concrete expression of faith that both reveals and forms our character.
