Bible

Reading: Mark 3:1 – 35 (NKJV)

Who do you say He is?

Who is Jesus?

What does it mean for Jesus to be the Messiah?

How does Jesus become King?

The First Story – (v.1 – 10)(NKJV)

v.1 “And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand.”

This story was about “healing.”

The story was about “the man being healed”

The story was about “the Pharisees watching Jesus to see if He would heal this man on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him or bring charges against Jesus.”

Mark 1:21-28 (ref)

Mark 1:29-31 (ref)

Mark 3:10 “For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him.”

The Second Story (v.20 – 23)

Mark 3:20 “Then the multitude (the crowd) came together again ”So that they could not so much as eat bread.”

v.21 “But when His own people heard about this, they went out to lay hold on Him…

Who do they say Jesus is?

Family, who do you say Jesus is?

“He is out of His mind.”

The Story leaves it there for now…

Mark now introduces a new group: a delegation from Jerusalem,

The Scribes (the lawyers) of the Pharisees –

The question for the Scribes is

Who do you say Jesus is?

The Scribes said,

“He has Beelzebub” and “By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.”

v.23 “So He called them to Himself and said to them in parables:

“ How can Satan cast out Satan?”

Facts by Jesus:

Satan is not able to cast out Satan.

If your accusation is factual, then Satan has become divided in his allegiance.

This should mean that he has become powerless.

Jesus points out that it is absurd to assume that Satan drives himself out of the people he controls.

Jesus initiated a direct conversation with the Jerusalem scribes.

He spoke to them in ‘parables’ which refers to a…

‘Narrative or saying of varying length, designed to illustrate

a truth especially through comparison or simile.’

The Story resumes…

A True Family is…

“a close-knit fellowship of people who share a common identity,”

“Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” (v.35)

“Doing the will of God is intricately and consistently linked with the good news of the fulfilment of God’s promises, with the coming of the kingdom of God, and with the summons to repentance and belief in the good news.”

Conclusion:

“Who do you say Jesus is?”
